Science Activities

Go the THE LAB!

————————————————————————————————————-

The Lab is a terrific learning environment where we get to experiment with Science in the real world!

Together we will learn about:
  • 1. Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity
  • 2. Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments
  • 3. Model Digital-Age Work and Learning
  • 4. Promote and Model Digital Citizenship and Responsibility
  • 5. Engage in Professional Growth and Leadership
ISTE STANDARDSINTASC STANDARDS
In our class, students will be able to develop all of these skills by using their observation skills, being able to analyze and interpret data from charts or graphs, and think about how to create reasoning skills about how their science project works the way it does.
Students will learn a great deal from the online websites and the activities that they will participate in.  Each student will be inspired to learn and engaged in their experiences of what science can bring into a classroom.

Under the ISTE standards:

Standard 1: Facilitate and Inspire Student Learning and Creativity

This activity will feature the Video Cast assignment.  Students will have to create a movie using the online movie maker website, and address characters discussing a science question and arriving at a conclusion.

Standards 2:  Design and Develop Digital-Age Learning Experiences and Assessments

Standard 3:  Model Digital-Age Work and Learning

Students will look at activities Grow Plants Grow, and Physical vs. Virtual Science.  The first activity will help students understand the importance of graphing and gathering data, and the second activity will allow students to explore the virtual world of science and make comparisons between how science can be different and similar online vs. in the classroom.

INTASC standards:

STANDARD 3: DIVERSE LEARNERS: The teacher understands how students differ in their approaches to learning and creates instructional opportunities that are adapted to diverse learners.

All of these activities have room for diversity to take place.  There are many different levels of learners in a classroom that can learn in a variety of ways. Using a video to conduct instruction is a great alternate way of teaching and can help students both see and can be audio as well.
